There’s something magical about a Galentine’s-themed studio session with a group of high school senior girls.
Recently, my Senior Model Team gathered in the studio for a creative, joy-filled Galentine’s shoot - and it was about so much more than photos. As a high school senior photographer serving Fuquay- Varina and Raleigh, I design these model team sessions to build confidence, spark creativity, and give teens a safe, welcoming space to connect.
And this session? It delivered all of that and more.
One is the biggest benefits of model team is comfort! The more time these girls spend in front of the camera, the more natural they become.
What starts as “I don’t know how to pose” quickly turns into effortless movement, authentic laughter, and real confidence. By the time their individual senior portrait sessions happen, they walk into the studio relaxed and self-assured — because it’s no longer unfamiliar.
That kind of confidence doesn’t just show up in photos. It carries into life.
For this Galentine’s session, the girls helped design the shoot themselves. They chose their outfits. They voted on the backdrop color. They brought flowers, chocolates, and fun props to style the space.
One team member even created a handmade banner that became part of our set — which I absolutely loved. Watching them brainstorm, collaborate, and problem-solve together is one of my favorite parts of these sessions. It gives them ownership of the experience.
And yes… there were confetti cannons involved.
Because sometimes confidence looks like perfectly styled portraits.
And sometimes it looks like laughing through a confetti explosion.
So much of their world lives on screens — social media, homework, group chats. These in-studio model team sessions create something different: real-life connection.
The studio becomes a space where they can hang out, encourage each other, be silly, and just exist without pressure. It’s a place where they feel at home.
As a senior photographer, creating that safe and welcoming environment matters deeply to me. These girls are navigating a huge transitional season of life. Having a place where they feel supported and celebrated makes a difference.
Being part of a Senior Model Team isn’t just about beautiful images (though we absolutely create those). It’s about learning to be resourceful, trying new ideas, collaborating creatively, and growing in confidence.
It’s about friendship.
It’s about experience.
It’s about joy.
And if I’m still vacuuming up confetti next month? Totally worth it.
